Letter From The President – June 2019

    By MikeHelly | The SPEXpert | 0 comment | 20 June, 2019 | 0

    Hello Housatonians,

A successful Region Conference! Thanks to the Hartford Chapter for collaborating on a gathering that brought several of the chapters together. Our own Chris Meyers, Roy Olsen and Ross Spiegel were the driving force in getting this to happen. Our Region President Marty Helly and Terri Bracken were extremely helpful in the location negotiations and coordinating attendees and exhibitors.

I was pleased to meet our chapter members and several of their guests who attended. The city of Hartford has many things to offer. The Conference provided many seminars and products to enhance our knowledge of the profession. Thank you to the exhibitors who brought their traveling booths to give us insight into current and future materials to be specified in our projects.

The May meeting was an educational program on handrails and guardrails. The presenter, Shawn Maguire from HDI was most knowledgeable in the presentation. The members attending remarked that the information was one of the best of the season.

This is the Housatonic Chapter’s 50th anniversary. The charter was on view at the hospitality suite and at the registration desk. I enjoyed reading the original members’ names and realizing the connection I had to the organization long before I became a member of CSI. The organization has grown from local professionals meeting, to the regional meetings, national meetings and certifications to identify the expertise each individual possesses.

Our June meeting is our annual social event and recognition of chapter members who have greatly contributed to the success of this year. 1969 was an eventful year also. Yes, our chapter chartered with 37 Professional members and 37 Industry members. ‘[It] was one small step for [these men], and one giant leap’ for this chapter to become a respected educational forum in the construction industry.

The Board will get down to business this summer when educational programs go on hiatus. Planning for September and beyond will be the focus. Any suggestions for chapter meetings are always welcome.

    See you in Milford,
    Bill Selski, CSI, CDT, RA
    President, CSI Housatonic Chapter
